Ice scientists at work

Child-directed play involves ideas, plans, and working together. Our 4’s & 5’s have been exploring the science of ice. Today, one student designed his own experiment. He found three different-sized pieces of ice and placed them in the sun. He was observing and interested to see which one would melt the fastest. Another group of children asked for hammers to “break the ice” outside under the pirate ship. They had all played the Don’t Break The Ice Game in class, which they recreated on the playground with real ice.
