MOrning Class
teacher: Ms. julie
Ms. Julie aims to create a nurturing, accepting, and flexible environment for her toddlers where curiosity and independence are encouraged, self-concept is enhanced, and expectations are clear. She teaches through example, instilling in her toddlers a sense of caring and sensitivity toward others.
Our mornings are filled with free play time. The children can choose from many play opportunities set up in the different centers – art, math, manipulatives, science, music, dramatic play, writing, reading, and block and sensory play. During snack time, the children are invited to participate in many self-help activities to build self-confidence and promote the growing independence desired by toddlers. Every day there is music and movement: the children explore scarves, bean bags, and different instruments. They listen and dance to a wide variety of songs promoting coordination, cooperation, creative expression, and language acquisition. Language is incorporated into every activity throughout the day. Books are read inside on a pillow and outside in the grass. After music, playtime is moved to the outdoor classroom! We continue exploring, enhancing our physical skills, and enjoying the wonderful sensory experiences nature has to offer – painting on easels, digging in sand, scooping and pouring water in funnels, turning over rocks to spy for bugs, and balancing on and jumping off tree trunks!
MOrning Class

The Young 3’s class is a special place where every child feels welcome and accepted. Each week, our class has a planned theme that facilitates child-initiated learning through play. Carefully selected daily music, movement, reading time, dramatic play, art projects, sensory experiences, and manipulatives reinforce the children’s continuing development of their gross motor, fine motor, language, math, and social-emotional skills. Each week, we have several special group activities planned that are based on the week’s theme, including cooking, science experiments, and social studies. Ms. Melinda’s goal is to guide the children as they learn to cooperate, communicate and share with one another. By creating a nurturing and fun environment, each child’s individual growth and love of learning are safely supported.
MOrning Class

Ms. Suzanne’s 3’s & 4’s class is a cheerful and busy place in the morning, with all centers open. Dramatic play is supported by changing themes such as Pet Store, Pizza Shop, Restaurant, Puppet Play, and Hospital. Fostering a love of learning, centers include games, puzzles, process art, a writing table, block center, sensory table, and other planned experiences such as music movement. We enjoy exploring math with counting, cooking, and making patterns. Social and emotional growth is enhanced and supported through cooperative play and experiences. Circle time usually starts with a book, learning a new game or concept, and includes the children’s ideas or thoughts in active discussion. The sense of a community that fosters a child’s sense of the world and themselves is evident in every aspect of the day. The 3’s & 4’s love the Co-op’s ‘’’big yard” playground as well as the indoors “muscle room” for large motor play.
MOrning Class
teacher: Ms. lee
The Young 4’s class is a place where children and their needs are placed at the forefront of most of the decision-making. As we play and learn, we focus on promoting physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development in a nurturing environment.
Each day as you enter the classroom, you are greeted with a big welcome from Ms. Lee. We begin our day with morning work or table work while we wait for others to arrive. We have a circle time where each child can be the leader and participate. This time includes many different activities such as calendar, weather, counting, estimation, graphing, story time and singing songs. Free play is more than half of our day at Northaven Co-op. Children can pick a center to play in and move freely from center to center as they choose. Examples of these centers are blocks, puzzles, games, science, fine motor activities, math, process art and carpentry, just to name a few. We have snack time before we gather for music and movement. Finally, we end our day on our amazing playground. Weekly we cook and enjoy fun science experiments.
MOrning Class
teacher: Ms. Vicki
Stepping into the 4’s & 5’s class, you will be greeted by Ms. Vicki, take turns feeding our class fish and join in book look as we wait for all our friends to arrive. We start our day with our Co-op kid as our leader talking about our calendar and the weather. We look and guess how many objects there are in our estimation jar and listen to our first book. We have an interactive circle time, then move to our table work with puzzles, games, science center, fine motor activities, math activities, process art and free play. Free play involves all our centers – carpentry, dramatic play, big blocks, and sensory play. We enjoy our family-style snack time and gather for music and movement followed by a story. We end our day with outdoor play. Each week we cook and enjoy science experiments.

Fab Friday is available to the three oldest classes (3’s & 4’s, Young 4’s, and 4’s & 5’s) and is limited to 12 students. The class is taught by Ms. Suzanne, our 3’s & 4’s teacher, and Ms. Julie, our Young 2’s and 2’s & 3’s teacher. The curriculum concentrates on STEM activities, including cooking, experiments, games, building, and engineering. The class provides students with hands-on experiences that build cooperation, interest, and knowledge.

Stay for Lunch and Play is a mixed-aged after-school program designed for our four older classes. Children engage with all the teachers and make new friends while having lunch and playing on our large playground. A fun program for children – and a longer day to have grown-up time for parents.
