Exploring snowmen in the 4’s & 5’s class has brought winter to the classroom. We made banana snowmen for our snack, a class paper snowman using loose parts, and snowman sculptures.
We invited the Young 4’s to join us in a first-time experiment to create an exploding snowman in a bag. We gathered our ingredients, made our predictions, and then watched. The first time, there was no explosion. Disappointed, we discussed what we thought was the problem and then tried again. No explosion. We discussed it again and decided that our ziplock bag was too big, so we used a much smaller plastic bag for a third try. We hoped and watched for a chemical reaction to produce an exploding snowman, and it finally happened. Our bag fizzed, filled with bubbles, expanded, and then we heard the pop!
