Welcoming the Year of the Horse

The children from the Co-op celebrated the beginning days of the Lunar New Year by making fried rice, reading Lion Dancer by Kate Waters and Madeline Slovenz-Low, enjoying their fortune cookies, painting lanterns and Chinese characters, and taking home a red envelope.

A special thank you to Serena Othman for sharing the beauty of the Chinese language and modeling a traditional kimono. The students also listened to the book Cat and Rat: The Legend of the Chinese Zodiac by Ed Young. The twelve animals that successfully competed in the Great Race were given a designated year in the Chinese Zodiac. This year is the Year of the Horse.
