During this holiday season, our students are introduced to different holiday traditions, celebrating the diversity of our school. All of our classes cook the special foods of the season. Making latkes during the eight nights of Hanukkah is a must. We grated potatoes, added egg and grated onion, and fried small patties in batches. The children enjoyed them and asked for more and more.
The special candelabra called the Menorah is lit each night by the helper candle, and we enjoyed lighting ours. These special candles are not blown out as we do for birthdays but stay lit until the candles themselves burn out. Our art projects included making paper menorahs and watercolor dreidels – the spinning top game played for gold coins called gelt.
