Learning about the homes of the Native Americans

Our study of the Native Americans concluded with looking at the different kinds of homes the Native Americans built throughout the United States. We made paper teepees using bright oil paint colors with the children’s own designs. We discussed the parts of the teepees, how they were constructed, and their purpose in allowing ease of moving from place to place to follow the buffalo. The women of the tribe would be responsible for erecting their teepee and accomplished this feat in about fifteen minutes.

We placed five teepees on the playground, and all the children enjoyed sitting inside with their classmates.
